Privacy policy

This policy explains what information AutoAid collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have.

Who we are

AutoAid provides a service that helps drivers manage the everyday responsibilities of vehicle ownership and get support when something goes wrong. AutoAid is often provided in partnership with the dealer that supplied your vehicle.

The data controller for your personal information is AutoAid Administration Limited, registered company number 17045801, registered in the United Kingdom, at AutoAid, Colne Way, Watford WD24 7ND.

For any privacy matter, email privacy@autoaid.co.uk.

Information we may collect

Depending on how you use AutoAid, we may collect:

  • your name and contact details;
  • your vehicle information, such as registration, make and model;
  • information about your supplying dealer;
  • MOT, service and vehicle tax information and dates;
  • insurance information you choose to add;
  • warranty information;
  • finance agreement information and documents you choose to upload voluntarily;
  • your communications with AutoAid and with Ada, including messages, requests and support history;
  • technical information about how the app and website are used, such as device type, general location, pages viewed and error reports;
  • any other information necessary to provide a service you have asked us to arrange.

You do not have to give us everything. Some features simply won't work if the relevant information isn't there — for example we can't remind you about an MOT date we don't have.

Why we use your information

We use your information to:

  • provide the AutoAid service and your account;
  • send reminders about things that are due;
  • help you when you ask for support, and connect you with the right service, supplier or next step;
  • let you know when your current finance may put you in a position to change your car, so you can consider your options if you want to;
  • keep AutoAid secure, reliable and working properly;
  • improve AutoAid, and meet our legal, regulatory and record-keeping obligations;
  • send you marketing about AutoAid where you have agreed to receive it.

Our lawful bases under UK GDPR

We rely on the following lawful bases, as appropriate:

  • Performance of a contract — to provide the AutoAid service to you and arrange the support you request.
  • Legitimate interests — to keep AutoAid secure, to improve the service, and to provide helpful prompts and information about your vehicle and ownership. We consider your interests and rights when relying on this basis.
  • Legal obligations — where we must keep records or respond to lawful requests.
  • Consent — where consent is required, for example certain marketing messages and optional cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Sharing your information

We share information only where it is appropriate for the service or action concerned — usually because it's needed to arrange something you have asked for. Depending on the situation, this may include:

  • your supplying dealer;
  • a warranty provider;
  • a roadside assistance provider;
  • a garage or repairer;
  • a tyre provider;
  • an accident management provider;
  • a finance-related provider;
  • other AutoAid service partners;
  • our own technology suppliers who help us run the service, under contract and on our instructions.

Those organisations handle your information under their own terms and privacy notices. We may also share information where we are required to do so by law.

We do not sell your personal information.

Marketing

Where you have agreed to receive marketing from AutoAid, we may contact you about AutoAid services and helpful vehicle-related information. You can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in any message, in your app settings, or by emailing privacy@autoaid.co.uk. Opting out of marketing does not stop service messages such as reminders or updates about support you've asked for.

How long we keep your information

We keep personal information only for as long as is reasonably necessary for the purposes it was collected for, including while you use AutoAid, and to meet applicable legal, regulatory and record-keeping requirements. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymise it securely.

International transfers

Your information is normally processed in the United Kingdom. Where a supplier processes information outside the UK, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place — such as UK adequacy regulations, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses, together with additional measures where needed.

Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including access controls, encryption in transit and staff training. No system can be guaranteed completely secure, so please keep your account details private and let us know if you think something is wrong.

Ada and the technology behind AutoAid

Ada is AutoAid's assistant. Ada uses technology to help you find your way around AutoAid, answer everyday questions, gather the information needed to help you, and point you towards the right service or support.

Ada does not make legally binding decisions, and does not make insurance, warranty or financial decisions. In particular, AutoAid does not decide whether a warranty claim is covered — your warranty provider remains responsible for assessing, authorising and deciding claims. Ada also does not replace professional diagnosis or advice from a qualified garage, technician or adviser, and AutoAid does not provide regulated financial advice.

Behind Ada sits a real team of case handlers, so a person can pick things up when a situation needs human judgement.

Cookies

Our website and app use cookies and similar technologies. Essential ones are needed for AutoAid to work; optional analytics ones are only used if you accept them. See our cookie policy for details and to change your choice.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • ask for access to the information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to erase information where that applies;
  • ask us to restrict how we use your information;
  • object to certain uses, including processing based on legitimate interests and direct marketing;
  • ask us to transfer information to you or another provider, where data portability applies;
  • withdraw consent at any time where our use relies on your consent.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@autoaid.co.uk. We'll respond within the time limits set by law.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make an important change, we'll make that clear on this page or let you know directly.
